Marion Natural History Museum599 viewsDuring Wednesday's “Soil Critters” afterschool program, students had the opportunity to learn about what makes up a healthy soil and how varying numbers of insects populate different types of soil. The soil from the compost pile had the highest number of animals, with 17 pill bugs, 26 worms, two beetles, 34 springtails, two millipedes and one nematode. Thirty-six artists and artisans offer a variety of jewelry, ceramics, clothing, cards, glass, ornaments, photography, paintings, puppets, ribbons, birds, scrimshaw, furniture and fiber. The day included bicycle safety information, a rodeo course and certificate awards for all participants. In addition, the Marion Police Department was awarded a statewide grant by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to provide 75 bicycle helmets during the event. Do-Si-Do in Marion597 viewsOn Sunday, September 14, the first of what is hoped to be an annual series of Marion Square Dances was held inside the Marion Community Center. Although initially slated to take place in the parking lot adjacent to the Marion General Store, the weekend’s rainy weather forced the event indoors.
