Holiday Shop745 viewsThe Annual Holiday Shop is now open at the Marion Art Center. Thirty-six artists and artisans offer a variety of jewelry, ceramics, clothing, cards, glass, ornaments, photography, paintings, puppets, ribbons, birds, scrimshaw, furniture and fiber. Everything is handmade and unique. The shop will be open Tuesday to Friday, 1:00 to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm through December 21. Admission is free. (Photo by Robert Chiarito).

Mostly Maritime745 viewsStephen Cooks acrylic painting of New Bedfords Ernestina will be included in an exhibition titled Mostly Maritime which opens at the Marion Art Center on Sunday, March 2 with a reception to meet the artist from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. The exhibition will be installed in both galleries at the Marion Art Center, located on the corner of Main and Pleasant Streets in Marion through April 9. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday, 1:00 to 5:00 pm and Saturdays, 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Admission is free.

Marion Natural History Museum745 viewsDuring Wednesday's “Soil Critters” afterschool program, students had the opportunity to learn about what makes up a healthy soil and how varying numbers of insects populate different types of soil. The soil from the compost pile had the highest number of animals, with 17 pill bugs, 26 worms, two beetles, 34 springtails, two millipedes and one nematode. The day included bicycle safety information, a rodeo course and certificate awards for all participants. In addition, the Marion Police Department was awarded a statewide grant by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to provide 75 bicycle helmets during the event.
