Turtle Talk600 viewsElizabeth Leidhold of the Marion Natural History Museum recently presented several programs on leatherback turtles at schools in Dartmouth under the auspices of the Buzzards Bay Action Committee (BBAC). The BBAC is a non-profit organization made up of 12 of the municipalities within the Buzzards Bay watershed. These programs are offered to schools at no charge and the BBAC is applying for a grant to fund more of these programs for local schools in the future.

The day included bicycle safety information, a rodeo course and certificate awards for all participants. In addition, the Marion Police Department was awarded a statewide grant by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to provide 75 bicycle helmets during the event. Marion Natural History Museum598 viewsDuring Wednesday's “Soil Critters” afterschool program, students had the opportunity to learn about what makes up a healthy soil and how varying numbers of insects populate different types of soil. The soil from the compost pile had the highest number of animals, with 17 pill bugs, 26 worms, two beetles, 34 springtails, two millipedes and one nematode.
