Marion Natural History Museum393 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group enjoyed working on crafts made from natural and recycled materials last Wednesday. This was the last after-school program for 2015, and the students had a chance to have some fun decorating as well as enjoying snacks and slides of the past year's programs. Please keep an eye out for upcoming winter and spring programs, which will be posted on the museum's website www.marionmuseum.org soon. Photos by Elizabeth Leidhold

Marion Memorial Day393 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. At the Town Hall, the names of the fallen soldiers were read aloud and the Rochester Memorial School Band played patriotic songs before heading out for the parade. Photos by Colin Veitch

Turtle Care393 viewsSome of the residents of Jenney Lane at The Cove in Marion have found a new passion in rescuing diamond-backed terrapin eggs and safely releasing the hatchlings into the wild. A private neighborhood group, along with “Turtle Guy” Don Lewis and wife Sue Weiber Nourse, created a terrapin habitat restoration project knows as the turtle garden at The Cove. The project has seen success this year with an increase in new terrapin nests over last year. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum393 viewsHarbormaster's office for the opportunity to visit the newly refurbished Bird Island. We had the opportunity to see terns, geese, ducks, cormorants, and oystercatchers, as well as a trip to the top of the lighthouse. We viewed the changes that have been made to the island to make it more hospitable to the arriving tern population, which will be looking for a nesting habitat. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Living History 393 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean

Turkey Trot 5K 393 viewsSunday was the morning of the annual Turkey Trot 5K in the center of Marion. Yes, it was rainy and windy, but the 80 turkeys (we mean participants) that showed up anyway still enjoyed the scenic village trot. Photos by Glenn C. Silva
