The theme of this year’s party, “Out of This World,” was appropriately represented in the playful banner hung on the stack of firewood and eventually burned along with it in an enormous bonfire. Students used binoculars to view robins, cardinals, mourning doves and Canada geese. We also spoke about the Great Backyard Bird Count that took place February 17-20. Pizza with Santa428 viewsIt’s never Christmas in Marion until you’ve sat on Santa’s lap followed by a slice of pizza. Sunday was the annual Pizza with Santa, hosted by the Marion Police Brotherhood. We viewed a red-tailed hawk, two vultures, many robins, a downy woodpecker, and many more. Elizabeth Taber Statue428 viewsA murky morning gave way to a sun-drenched celebration of Elizabeth Taber as the bronze statue of “Marion’s Fairy Godmother” was officially unveiled on October 17 in Bicentennial Park. Representatives from the Celebrate Elizabeth Taber Committee, Town of Marion officials, and sculptor Erik Durant addressed a large gathering of citizens who collected stickers and enjoyed music by the Academy Brass Quartet along with cupcakes.
