Marion Veterans Day Observance431 viewsDuring the Marion Veterans Day observance on Friday morning, the townspeople of Marion expressed a heartfelt thank you to the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425, which in return gave a moving farewell as it disbanded this year and donated the VFW building to the town. First Congregational Church of Marion431 viewsOn Sunday, April 22, the First Congregational Church of Marion held a special Earth Day service, celebrating God's creation. Kathleen, Lily, Camila, and Maddie did a skit around the theme of reduce, reuse, recycle. After the service, we had a procession down to the Town Wharf where we cleaned up trash. Marion Natural History Museum431 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum Explored Group led by the staff from MattRec had a great week exploring Mattapoisett's open spaces. Along with crabbing, netting fish, building cairns, discovering types of seaweeds and saltmarsh vegetation, and plenty of swimming, we also met Coast Guard Fairhaven and Marion Flotilla members for a tour of Ned's Point lighthouse. We learned about oyster farming with Bob Field and enjoyed a boat tour of Mattapoisett Harbor with the Harbormaster's Office.

Marion Natural History Museum431 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group enjoyed a woodland walk to collect various items from nature. The group collected pinecones, smelled sassafras trees, and had a great time collecting many colors of fallen leaves. Then it was back to the museum to construct plant presses and design colorful specimens. The group will bring their completed works back in a couple of weeks to laminate them. Many thanks to the parent volunteers and Tabor community service volunteers for all their help.
