Marion Village 5K480 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50. Marion Natural History Museum480 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front. Marion Natural History Museum480 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed learning about life in salt marshes with the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA). We discovered that the diamondback terrapin can live 25-40 years, and that the warmest part of the terrapin's nest will result in females and the coolest part, males. Karilon Babbit Grainger inherited it from her aunt, and has now donated the dollhouse to the Marion Natural History Museum for all to enjoy. The fantastic structure is just perfect for the imaginative play of our visitors, children and adults alike. Working lights, beautiful furniture, and many minute details make this item a fun way to spend some time playing at the museum.
