Marion Natural History Museum403 viewsDr. Michael Moore of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, using the museum's harpoon and baleen, introduced the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group to a little of Marion's whaling history. Students could ask questions and theorize why Sippican Harbor had the first recorded visit from a humpback whale this fall. We wish to thank Dr. Moore for the great program. Marion Natural History Museum403 viewsThe kids had a great time collecting specimens for their projects and creating a masterpiece to take home at the Marion Natural History Museum. This was the last summer program for 2016, but keep checking the website, www.marionmuseum.org, for our upcoming after school programs. Photo by Elizabeth Leidhold

Marion Art Center Halloween Parade 403 viewsIt looked as though nearly a thousand people came out for the Marion Art Center Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31. The event gets bigger and better every year, it seems, judging by the number of people and the degree of creativity when it comes to the costumes. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum403 viewsOn Wednesday, March 29, the Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool program explored some online mapping programs. We located schools, forested lands, hospitals, and airports, as well as many ocean features and historic shipwrecks. The students left the program with instructions on how they could develop their own maps at home, which the museum will be laminating for them. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Living History 403 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean
