Library Henna460 viewsThe Elizabeth Taber Library hosted a henna tattoo program for teens, with each guest receiving their own henna creation by professional henna artist Heather Cault-Nulton. The art of henna dates back thousands of years and has recently grown in popularity. As part of a new initiative to draw teens into the library, the afternoon henna event was held on March 1 and attracted 13 area teens to experience the beauty of henna. Photos by Colin Veitch

We spoke about different types of food sources animals use, as well as their caches/larders and how to identify them in the field. We also had fun working on a bird feeder project to bring home. Pizza with Santa460 viewsIt’s never Christmas in Marion until you’ve sat on Santa’s lap followed by a slice of pizza. Sunday was the annual Pizza with Santa, hosted by the Marion Police Brotherhood. Tabor Academy Polar Plunge460 viewsTabor Academy hosted its second annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, January 21 at Silvershell Beach to raise money for the school’s Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. Students from ‘fundraising rival’ Sandwich High also showed up, with scores of students and staff making a dash in and quickly out of the chilly waters. The plunge raised about $8,000. Mushroom Walk460 viewsThe Sippican Lands Trust and the Boston Mycological Club took a large group out on Sunday for a mushroom walk at the White Eagle Property in Marion. Participants gathered hundreds of mushrooms and laid them out on a long table for mushroom experts Ken Fienberg and Chris Neefus to help identify. Photos by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum460 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group enjoyed a woodland walk to collect various items from nature. The group collected pinecones, smelled sassafras trees, and had a great time collecting many colors of fallen leaves. Then it was back to the museum to construct plant presses and design colorful specimens. The group will bring their completed works back in a couple of weeks to laminate them. Many thanks to the parent volunteers and Tabor community service volunteers for all their help.

Marion Fire Department 460 viewsSunday was a solemn day for the Tri-Town and its first responders as many gathered to honor Thomas Nye, 72, a 45-year veteran of the Marion Fire Department who died February 27 in the line of duty. Over 100 firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel from the Tri-Town and beyond marched together down Route 6 in Mattapoisett on March 3 to pay their respects to their fallen comrade who suffered a cardiac arrest at home after assisting in a fire call the night before.
