We learned about geology vs. paleontology equipment and how fossils are made. We also had a chance to make our own Megladon tooth to take home. The museum also wishes to thank Sarah Porter, and parent volunteers Wendy Copps and Marcia Waldron, for their help during the event. Tabor Academy Polar Plunge549 viewsTabor Academy hosted its second annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, January 21 at Silvershell Beach to raise money for the school’s Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. Students from ‘fundraising rival’ Sandwich High also showed up, with scores of students and staff making a dash in and quickly out of the chilly waters. The plunge raised about $8,000. Marion Natural History Museum549 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front. SLT Oyster Fest 549 viewsThe Sippican Lands Trust’s Beer and Oyster Fest fundraiser was a hit despite the threat of approaching Hurricane Dorian, which was replaced with blue skies just in time, and holding the event earlier in the day mitigated the guests’ exposure to EEE-carrying mosquitos.
