Marion Natural History Museum477 viewsOn January 24, the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group investigated different adaptations wild animals make to get through the winter months. We spoke about different types of food sources animals use, as well as their caches/larders and how to identify them in the field. We also had fun working on a bird feeder project to bring home. Next program is February 15 with the Nasketucket Bird Club. To see all our upcoming programs, please visit our website: www.marionmuseum.org. Photos courtesy El

Marion Town Party477 viewsChalk up another successful Marion Town Party as several hundred party-goers found good food and fun on the grounds of the Town House on 8/25. Children of all ages enjoyed inflatable games, climbing the rock wall, or jumping around to music. The annual party has its roots deep in the community and may have started as early at 1900. This year’s event featured live entertainment, a scavenger hunt, and lots of good food.

Marion Natural History Museum476 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum wishes to thank Jim Pierson for a wonderful program on collecting rocks and fossils. We learned about geology vs. paleontology equipment and how fossils are made. We also had a chance to make our own Megladon tooth to take home. The museum also wishes to thank Sarah Porter, and parent volunteers Wendy Copps and Marcia Waldron, for their help during the event. Also, many thanks to ORCTV for allowing us to borrow their equipment to record the event.

Found Objects476 viewsAt the Marion Art Center, the artists featured in the MAC’s latest show “Found Objects” have ‘discarded’ tradition for trash. All the works on display are made from ‘upcycled’ and ‘repurposed’ bits and bobs, proving that some art literally can be trash. Photos by Jean Perry
