Marion Holiday Stroll479 viewsThe Marion village streets were filled with holiday revelers on Sunday, December 9, for the annual Marion Holiday Stroll. Santa’s boat docked at the Marion Wharf where the faces of hundreds of children lit up at his arrival. Santa boarded a horse-drawn carriage and paraded through the streets, passing businesses offering free goodies and dodging the whereabouts of that old Grinch who didn’t seem to mind Christmas coming at all this year. Touch-A-Truck 479 viewsMarion Recreation held its 8th annual Touch-A-Truck event at Washburn Park on May 11. The turnout exceeded past Kids Equipment Fun Day events in Marion, especially last year’s, which was repeatedly postponed and then canceled altogether. Marion Natural History Museum479 viewsOver the past two Wednesdays, the MNHM afterschool group visited Bird Island courtesy of Isaac and Peter of the Marion Harbormaster's office. We observed many terns arriving to this crucial nesting spot, as well as oystercatchers, gulls, and a pair of Canadian geese. We inspected nesting boxes prepared by the state Fish & Wildlife department and the habitat restoration improvements to the island. We also toured the 200-year-old lighthouse.

Despite an EEE “high risk” alert, the 7th annual Tri-Town National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6, was underway in front of ORR attracting locals to enjoy a summer afternoon of interacting with our emergency first responders and exploring the tools of their trade. As usual, the kids exhibited outstanding cooperation, creativity, and imagination. Marion Natural History Museum478 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front.
