Marion Natural History Museum425 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group enjoyed working on crafts made from natural and recycled materials last Wednesday. This was the last after-school program for 2015, and the students had a chance to have some fun decorating as well as enjoying snacks and slides of the past year's programs. Please keep an eye out for upcoming winter and spring programs, which will be posted on the museum's website www.marionmuseum.org soon. Photos by Elizabeth Leidhold

Whale Watch479 viewsOn December 2, a small, curious humpback whale surfaced in Marion between Nye’s Wharf and Ram Island. Long-time residents of the town couldn’t remember a prior whale sighting. The animal looked to be about 20 feet long. Marion resident Michael Moore guessed from its size that the whale was young -- and a sight that young humans would not want to miss. Just before dismissal, students at Sippican School heard the voice of Hannah Moore, their music direction, over the intercom. Photo by by Barbara Ann Markel

Marion Natural History Museum395 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after school group enjoyed a close-up look at a model of a harbor seal last Wednesday. The museum borrowed the seal from the Buzzards Bay Coalition for the day, and we had fun exploring what makes a harbor seal such a successful resident of Marion waters, and learning about the hazards they may encounter, as well as why it is important to keep your distance when you see a seal on land.
