Marion Natural History Museum225 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's annual meeting featured scientist Chris German from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Chris discussed deep ocean trenches, covering such topics as studying the chemical composition of volcanic eruptions and location activity to help determine where they might occur next. The building blocks of evolution may well have started in these areas here on earth. If there is life on other planets, the ocean vents would be the most likely places to start looking. As a re

Marion Natural History Museum253 viewsMany thanks to Mike Cronin for sharing his rocketry expertise with our afterschool group. We learned about what’s needed for lift-off and propulsion, as well as how to add the “recovery wadding” and parachute to ensure the rocket doesn’t get damaged. The kids had a wonderful time counting down and watching each of the rockets launch. The museum’s upcoming programs are listed at the museum website: www.marionmuseum.org. Hope to see you soon. Crocodile River Music256 viewsOn Saturday, May 17, as part of Art Week, the Marion Arts Center presented Crocodile River Music performing West African music and dance in Marion's Music Hall to an audience of about 70 people. A few children danced happily along with members of Crocodile River Music during several pieces. For the final piece of the event, almost everyone was up and dancing. The energy was terrific.
