Reading Frederick Douglass Together
The Marion Art Center will present a public reading of Frederick Douglass’s 1852 speech What to the Slave is the Fourth of July? A diverse group of readers from the South Coast region will read an abridged version of Douglass’s famous speech. Audience members are invited to join the community conversation led by guest scholar Dr. Moise St. Louis, in conjunction with the reading portion of the program. The program is on Monday, July 6 at 1:00 pm at the Benjamin D. Cushing Community Center, 465 Mill Street, Marion. This event is free and open to everyone.
The Marion Council on Aging will serve lunch at 12:00pm prior to the event. Anyone wishing to join for lunch may do so with a $5 donation and should call the COA office at 508-748-3570 by Thursday, July 2 at 12:00pm to make their reservation.
The presentation of this public reading is a statewide initiative coordinated by Mass Humanities, a generous sponsor of these free community events. More information is at the MAC website marionartcenter.org/events.
