Essay Contest Winner597 viewsHeidi Schneider, an eighth grade student at Friends Academy in North Dartmouth, won first prize in the Dartmouth, Massachusetts VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. The Patriot’s Pen essay contest gives sixth, seventh and eighth grade students the opportunity to express their opinion on a patriotic theme and improve their writing skills, while they compete for worthwhile awards and prizes. Friends Academy’s seventh and eighth grade English teacher Lauren Corliss encouraged all of her students to participate in the essay writing contest.

Hunger Walkers642 viewsTeens from Old Rochester Regional High School recently participated in Project Bread’s 30th annual Walk for Hunger. Some 43,000 walkers took part in the event that raised a record-breaking $3.3 million. The funds are used to feed hungry people at food pantries, soup kitchens, food banks, and food salvage programs across the state.
