Marion Natural History Museum132 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum hosted Bethany Boucher of Amazing Animal Ambassadors Monday afternoon. We met Milo the Fennec Fox and had a chance to compare attributes of Peter Quill the hedgehog to Iris the tenrec. We also met a skunk, a ferret, and a very friendly chinchilla. Many thanks to the Marion Cultural Council for partially funding this event. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Marion Natural History Museum132 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a great time learning about Monarch life history and migration yesterday. The group sent a card to a school in Mexico near the Oyamel fir forests of the Central Highlands to share a little information about Marion. We’ll be hearing back from them next spring with more information about the Monarch’s winter habitat. Many thanks to Maggie Payne for sharing her butterfly expertise with the group! Please keep checking our website, www.marionmuseum.org, f

Marion Natural History Museum 132 viewsOn a beautiful Saturday morning, the Nature Journaling group met with artist Tricia Cassady to learn about some techniques for journaling in nature. We took part in some exercises to loosen up and then had fun finding our own specimens to draw. We also had a chance to discuss our different experiences and have some laughs. The museum may be starting to meet monthly so if you’d like to join us, please email the director at www.marionmuseum.org. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Marion Natural History Museum 131 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum enjoyed a presentation by Stephanie Ellis, executive director of Wild Care, Inc. We heard how various animals get hurt, be it hit by a car, rat-poisoned birds of prey, glue traps, etc., and how Wild Care takes care of many wildlife species in their organization. Stephanie brought in "Garv," the Eastern Box Turtle; he was raised as a pet and does not know how to survive in the woods anymore.
