Present were semi-trucks, a school bus, police cruisers, an ambulance, and other smaller vehicles like a side-by-side. Rochester Rodeo149 viewsThe second of the bi-weekly rodeo was held at the Rochester Fair Grounds this past Saturday by New England Rodeo. Present were over 20 professional bull riders from New England, Latin America, and Brazil. There were also professional barrel riders and mounted shooters. There were some young cowboys and cowgirls who also gave it their best to stay on a bucking pony. Old Rochester Youth Baseball League148 viewsThe first Opening Day since 2019 brought out Old Rochester Youth Baseball League players and their families on Saturday morning in Rochester. A parade began at the Dexter Lane baseball complex and made its way to Gifford Park, where ORYB’s David Arancio recognized the many years of service from Derek Mello, Peter Vieira and David Nelson, who all threw ceremonial first pitches. Opening Day148 viewsRick Plunkett throws out the first pitch in memory of his son Ryan Plunkett, for whom the Old Rochester Youth Baseball League has commemorated a new award going to the league’s best pitcher. Rick Plunkett is also pictured with Rochester Police Officer Austin Alves, who was Ryan Plunkett’s catcher when the two played together on the A’s of the ORYB Major League. Alves recalled a home run Ryan Plunkett hit over the left-field wall that got caught up in the top of the batting cage at Gifford Park.

The June 1 commencement featured remarks from Superintendent of Schools Mike Nelson and Principal Mike Devoll and music from the school band. While ORR’s 153-member class was delirious upon the completion of the ceremony, the day’s loudest roar was reserved for the announcement of the diploma for the late Emma Whittaker. Photos by Mick
