Halloween Parade181 viewsThe streets of Marion were flooded with Halloween Parade participants and attendees, as members of the Sippican Elementary School Band helped the “witches” of the Marion Art Center lead a procession that began at the Music Hall and went down Front Street, up Main Street past the Elizabeth Taber statue and onto Spring Street, where children were met at Town House by staff members handing out candy for the kids. Pumpkin Palooza181 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

After a 21-year run, the fair is shutting down for the next two years to reassess and determine a course of action following three straight cancelations by weather and two virus threats. Shining Tides Multiuse Pathway181 viewsThe official opening of the Shining Tides multiuse pathway took place on June 12 with approximately 75 people gathered to applaud the 20-year effort. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation hosted the ribbon-cutting event where the elevated bridge span crosses the Mattapoisett River and Eel Pond marshlands. Oil Slick181 viewsMultiple government agencies, including Mattapoisett Fire Rescue and Harbormaster and Marion Harbormaster responded Sunday to the Cleveland Ledge area of Buzzards Bay after a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter spotted an oil slick that U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Ryan Noel said the oil slick in Buzzards Bay was approximately a mile long and 150 to 300 feet wide, according to a Facebook post made by the Marion Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department. Community Block Party181 viewsIt was a party for all ages when the Rochester Council on Aging hosted a Community Block Party on June 22. Local 4-H clubs brought animals, while Rochester's Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops provided games that included a soft-ax throw and soft archery-challenge games.
