Marion Natural History Museum188 viewsOn November 30, the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group had a chance to learn about the different types of trees in our area and to look at some equipment used by foresters to help protect our trees. By looking at a tree "cookie," we were able to count the rings to determine its age and learn about the services, the different sections, including the heart wood, sap wood and bark or phloem provides the tree.

Marion’s Christmas Stroll 188 viewsThe Town of Marion’s annual Christmas Stroll held on December 11 featured rides with Santa and Mrs. Claus on horse-drawn carriages, live entertainment from the Sippican Elementary School musicians, Christmas songs performed by Tabor Academy students, children’s activities and many refreshments offered along the sidewalks by village merchants. Rochester Historical Commission 188 viewsThe commission donates and posts plaques to showcase the town’s architectural history. On December 17, Commission Chairperson Connie Eshbach and the members donated and mounted a plaque at the Grange, which joins the Rochester Women's Club, East Rochester Congregational Church and Town Hall as recipients of a plaque. Marion Natural History Museum188 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum braved the snowy weather Wednesday and attending members were rewarded with 18 different shoreline bird sightings. The sightings included a large “raft” of sleepy Greater Scaup, Canada Geese, American Black Duck, Surf Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Horned Grebe, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull, Common Loon, American Crow, American Robin, House Finch, Song Sparrow and Northern Cardinal. Boat Fire188 viewsAll passengers escaped without harm after a small boat in Aucoot Cove was swallowed up in flames on July 1.
