Rochester Country Fair 2014322 viewsWhat do you get when you combine the smell of Italian sausage mixed with diesel exhaust and cow manure, the sound of loud tractor engines drowning out the live country music with the occasional barn animal noise, and the sight of happy Southcoast folks in overalls? The sublime sensory experience that is the Rochester Country Fair! What is more fun than four fun-filled days of frog racing, tractor pulling, mechanic bull riding, and fried food eating? Don’t forget the cowchip bingo and John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band who rocked the house on Saturday night before hundreds of spectators. Photos by Jean Perry, Camden Gaspar, and Felix Perez

Rochester Historical Commission321 viewsOn December 4, the Rochester Historical Commission presented a plaque to the Women’s Club noting the building's age. The plaque was attached to the building by George Owen and Tim Bates. These plaques are being donated by the commission to some of the town buildings used by the community with a hope of sharing town history. We will be extending this to residents who will be able to purchase a plaque for their historic home.

Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race320 viewsIt rained, again, for the Rochester Memorial Day Boat Race on Monday, May 29, but that never stops the participants from paddling the 14 miles of the Mattapoisett River that winds from Grandma Hartley’s Reservoir in Snipatuit Pond in Rochester all the way to the Herring Weir in Mattapoisett off River Road and Route 6. This was the 83rd year of the Tri-Town tradition. Photos by Jean Perry

Tanker Donation320 viewsThis surplus tanker truck has been repaired and prepared by the Town of Rochester for its impending transport to the fire department in Cayce, Kentucky, a small town devastated by a December 10 tornado. Rochester’s donation is a good fit because the tanker truck was recently replaced and serves the dual purpose necessary to serve a town without fire hydrants. Photos by Mick Colageo
