With the help of the students, the town has been able to fund the materials needed without the associated labor. Mattapoisett Land Trust324 viewsOn May 6, volunteers from the Mattapoisett Land Trust planted over two dozen sunflower seedlings in a row along Route 6 at Dunseith Park, just in front of Salty the Seahorse. Don Cuddy donated the seedlings and organized the planting as a symbolic gesture of MLT standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. On display was a jellyfish from gift ribbons, spice and herb shaker tops organized like a universe of the imagination, a bust of a female figure with braids created from plastic bags and tie-wraps, a deconstructed cookbook cut in strips and woven together in new text layouts and fabric swatches reorganized and reimagined as unintentional visual glories.

The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. The group has been successful in their efforts to help offset the unseen costs associated with a cancer diagnosis impacting local families.
