Kayak Clinic118 viewsAugust 9 and 10, the Mattapoisett Land Trust in partnership with the Mattapoisett Recreation Department held two kayak clinics for children ages 8 to 12. MLT volunteers provided safety instructions, a major focus of the program. Kayak introductory instruction has been provided by the two organizations for six years. Marion Natural History Museum117 viewsOn July 16, the Marion Natural History Museum's community group had a chance to explore some of our local butterfly species. We found a Clouded Sulphur, Eastern tailed blue, Monarchs, Little Wood Satyrs, Common Wood Nymphs, and two Pearl Crescents. We also learned to identify some of their host plants including Butterfly Weed, Milkweed, Sweet Pepperbush and Mountain Mint. Farmer retired after more than 30 years as the Town Band leader. Newell, who has more than 25 years playing and teaching in south-coast bands and in schools, is a teacher at Durfee High School in Fall River.
