The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. The group has been successful in their efforts to help offset the unseen costs associated with a cancer diagnosis impacting local families. Tornado in Mattapoisett347 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Paca Run346 viewsSeptember 25 found animal lovers of all ages visiting alpaca farms throughout the region in a game called “Paca Run.” Mattapoisett’s Pine Meadows Farm participated in the event, which included five farms where folks could pick up playing cards. At the end of the two-day event coinciding with National Alpaca Farm Days, the best “Hand” won prizes. Mattapoisett Land Trust346 viewsOn May 6, volunteers from the Mattapoisett Land Trust planted over two dozen sunflower seedlings in a row along Route 6 at Dunseith Park, just in front of Salty the Seahorse. Don Cuddy donated the seedlings and organized the planting as a symbolic gesture of MLT standing in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. 346 viewsOn view now as an outdoor art installation are two works created by UMass visual art students located at Dunseith, the Mattapoisett Land Trust park property at the corner of Route 6 and North Street. Both works are interactive in that The Bean has moveable parts that give viewers of all ages the opportunity to leave their own impact on tiny sculptures by relocating them across the surface of the sculpture. The Catalyst is bed-like, beckoning viewers to set aside cares and rest for a moment.
