Highway Fire242 viewsOn December 29, Mattapoisett and Marion Fire departments prevented multiple fires set along Route 195 eastbound from reaching the woods. Mattapoisett Fire Department reported on its Facebook page, responding with Chief 1, Engine 1, Engine 2 and Engine 4 to a reported “small fire” on Route 195 eastbound between the Mattapoisett and Marion exits. The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. Polar Plunge242 viewsOn New Years Day, hundreds were arrayed at Mattapoisett Town Beach for this year’s Mattapoisett Polar Plunge. Since 2013, the beach has seen residents and visitors run into the freezing Atlantic to kick off the new year. The event is held by Keep On Plungin’ who, through the selling of baked goods, coffee, and hot chocolate, donate all proceeds of the fridged plunge to local families grappling with the costs of cancer treatment.
