Tinkham is recognized by the community's Historical Commission as a Farmer-Friend-Educator with a commemorative brick placed at the site of the former Tripp Mill at Tinkham Pond on Acushnet Road. The Tripp Mill was owned by the Tinkham family for generations and noted as a historical location with an informative plaque. Tinkham is 99-years old and plans to celebrate his next birthday.

The event was hosted by an ad hoc group collecting donations for those battling cancer. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months.
