Helping the Homeless579 viewsStudents in Old Rochester Regional Junior High School’s Enrichment Program have been collecting goods to help make the lives of several struggling families a bit brighter this holiday season. As a reminder of their efforts, they recently set up a makeshift homeless shelter in the junior high school lobby. Route 6 Crash578 viewsJust before 3pm June 29, 2009 the Mattapoisett Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash at Route 6 and Main Street, which slowed down the already heavy summer traffic. Multiple injuries were reported in the two-vehicle crash to which two ambulances responded. One of the victims was immobilized on a backboard as a precautionary measure while transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for evaluation. The Fairhaven and Marion Police Departments also responded to assist at the scene.

Kubb Match577 viewsThe members of the Mattapoisett Land Trust hosted a game of Kubb (pronounced “koob”) on Sunday, January 25 at their Dunseith Garden property where the Seahorse is located on the corner of North Street and Route 6. This ancient game may or may not have ties dating back to the time of the Vikings and has been popular for the last 30 or 40 years on the Island of Gotland and in the southern part of Sweden. The church and community joined forces to deliver 60 pairs of socks to adults and 24 pairs to children in New Bedford. Each package included toiletries and a handwritten Valentine card. Mattapoisett Fire Department 577 viewsOn March 6 at approximately 10:09 am, the Mattapoisett Fire Department was dispatched to 141 Fairhaven Road for a reported structure fire. Fire Chief Andrew Murray arrived on scene at 10:11 am and reported heavy fire and smoke showing from the rear of the structure. At the time, a first-alarm assignment was requested to the scene, bringing in engines from Marion and Fairhaven Fire. Rochester Fire responded to Mattapoisett fire station for station coverage.
