Tornado in Mattapoisett404 viewsAn EF-1 tornado touched down late Tuesday morning in Mattapoisett. The unusual weather event downed power lines and hundreds of trees, knocking out power to many homes north of Route 195. Television news crews descended from Boston, as the Mattapoisett Fire and Police departments worked with utility companies and many power lines to clean up roads and assist area residents coming home to frightening scenes. Marion Lagoon403 viewsThe forebay wall is in place at Marion's Wastewater Treatment Plant lagoon. Solids will be processed to the northwest side of the concrete wall, right, and liquids in the larger area of the lagoon on the southeast side, according to DPW Director Nathaniel Munafo. A liner made up of over 30 pieces is on site awaiting final surface grading by Methuen Construction and the installation of a Multiflo infrastructural piping system.

New Year Plunge403 viewsIt was not publicized or heavily promoted, but traditions are hard to break. That was the case on New Year’s Day 2022 when a hearty group of some 200 “plungers” arrived at Mattapoisett Town Beach for their annual dip in the harbor. Last year the event was not publicized at all, said this year’s organizers, Heather and Michael Bichsel. “But we decided since people were going to show up anyway, we’d help to keep this going.”
