New Year Plunge276 viewsIt was not publicized or heavily promoted, but traditions are hard to break. That was the case on New Year’s Day 2022 when a hearty group of some 200 “plungers” arrived at Mattapoisett Town Beach for their annual dip in the harbor. Last year the event was not publicized at all, said this year’s organizers, Heather and Michael Bichsel. “But we decided since people were going to show up anyway, we’d help to keep this going.”

Keep on Plungin’ 276 viewsThe annual Keep on Plungin’ New Year’s Day swim drew well over 100 participants to Mattapoisett Town Beach, continuing a tradition started in 2013 by Will and Michelle Huggins to help families facing expenses related to cancer care. In the last two years, the community-driven effort has benefitted three families and Dana Farber with a $1,000 donation in Huggins’ honor. This year, organizers anticipate supporting at least two more families with checks for $2,000. Photos by Mick Colageo

Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Choir Sing-Along276 viewsThe 70th annual Tinkhamtown Chapel Christmas Choir Sing-Along. Smiles and merriment abound in this small but cozy and inviting environment. Not a free pew was seen and all smiled. The chapel was built in 1889 and has been maintained by locals who care deeply for its continued standing and operation. Though I had never been, I felt embraced, comfortable, and at home. Photos by Sam Bishop.
