Ned’s Point Lighthouse313 viewsTuesday afternoon offered a sneak preview of the reopening of Ned’s Point Lighthouse scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months. The lighthouse typically draws 100 visitors from all over the world when open during any regular, three-hour session. Photo by Mick Colageo

Christmas Swim313 viewsKate Butler was last to arrive but last one out of the water after two dozen people braved the cold, raw elements of the 2021 Christmas morning swim held December 25 at Mattapoisett Town Beach. Fish Ladder Repair312 viewsThe Mattapoisett Water Department, along with the assistance of the state’s Division of Marine Fisheries and local herring inspectors, were able to purchase the necessary lumber and rebuild the fish ladder at the Mattapoisett River Dam. There are 13 ladders that make up the weir, which allows easier access for the herring to head upstream. They are hoping to see the first few fish within the next couple of weeks.
