Brad Hathaway297 viewsIt took 32 years, but on October 3 Mattapoisett resident Brad Hathaway completed his “Walk around the World” along Aucoot Road, accompanied by well over 100 friends and supporters of his mission refocused some years ago from what had begun as a fitness prescription to a fundraising effort for the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Hathaway, 88, is a co-founder of the MLT and has dedicated his life toward preserving and protecting lands that his ancestors first came upon hundreds of years ago.

Fish Ladder Repair297 viewsThe Mattapoisett Water Department, along with the assistance of the state’s Division of Marine Fisheries and local herring inspectors, were able to purchase the necessary lumber and rebuild the fish ladder at the Mattapoisett River Dam. There are 13 ladders that make up the weir, which allows easier access for the herring to head upstream. They are hoping to see the first few fish within the next couple of weeks. The book contains 42 poems and the library recently said it was a "delightful book" and will be accepting a donated copy. Ann started taking poetry classes in her 80s.

Ned’s Point Lighthouse297 viewsTuesday afternoon offered a sneak preview of the reopening of Ned’s Point Lighthouse scheduled for Saturday, October 9, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Cathy Hardy and Mike Lally, a Texas couple, happened to be in the right place at the right time to become the first visitors to the 183-year-old lighthouse that had been closed for the past two years and three months. Mattapoisett Retiries 296 viewsFour recently retired, municipal employee relations were honored Tuesday afternoon for their long tenure and service to Mattapoisett and its residents at an outdoor ceremony. The four retirees are former Library Director Susan Pizzolato (11 years), former assistant Harbormaster Bob Ketchel (25 years), and Highway Department employees Jay DuPont (19 years) and Roger Fleurent (12 years). Pizzolato and Ketchel also received citations from the House of Representatives and the state senate.
