Tour de Crème371 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust in tandem with the Mattapoisett Bike Path Committee held its first Tour de Crème on Sunday, May 22. The fundraiser brought groups on three different courses – 13-, 25-, and 48-miles long – winding their way through area towns and making stops at various local ice cream parlors. Brad Hathaway371 viewsIt took 32 years, but on October 3 Mattapoisett resident Brad Hathaway completed his “Walk around the World” along Aucoot Road, accompanied by well over 100 friends and supporters of his mission refocused some years ago from what had begun as a fitness prescription to a fundraising effort for the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Hathaway, 88, is a co-founder of the MLT and has dedicated his life toward preserving and protecting lands that his ancestors first came upon hundreds of years ago.

Mattapoisett Library371 viewsOn August 7, the Mattapoisett Library hosted the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance. Interns from the Wareham-based agency gave a hands-on talk to small children on local sea turtles. NECWA studies local marine life, collecting data for a variety of agencies. Healing Little Hearts 5K 370 viewsUpward of 300 runners competed in the inaugural Healing Little Hearts 5K on a beautiful Columbus Day morning. The organization helps fund research efforts into children’s heart defects. “From my family and from the families you’re helping, thank you,” said Kelly Weglowski, who, along with husband, Marc, and daughter Jillian founded Healing Little Hearts in the midst of their son and brother Brady’s own battle. Holiday Party at Shipyard Park370 viewsThe community turned out for a wonderful late afternoon of lights, music, food and fun at the annual Holiday Party at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett hosted by the Lions Club. The Lions were collecting non-perishable food and unwrapped new toys to distribute to those in need during the holiday. Library Treasures370 viewsWord spread of the Antiques Roadshow-style fundraiser at the Mattapoisett Library on March 29, attracting scores of South Coasters clutching their treasures, antiques, and heirlooms for appraisal and admiration, hoping Francis McNamee of the Marion Antique Shop might discover worth in their belongings beyond their sentimental value.
