Healing Little Hearts 5K 380 viewsUpward of 300 runners competed in the inaugural Healing Little Hearts 5K on a beautiful Columbus Day morning. The organization helps fund research efforts into children’s heart defects. “From my family and from the families you’re helping, thank you,” said Kelly Weglowski, who, along with husband, Marc, and daughter Jillian founded Healing Little Hearts in the midst of their son and brother Brady’s own battle. Holiday Party at Shipyard Park380 viewsThe community turned out for a wonderful late afternoon of lights, music, food and fun at the annual Holiday Party at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett hosted by the Lions Club. The Lions were collecting non-perishable food and unwrapped new toys to distribute to those in need during the holiday. On April 12, families gathered at Ned’s Point to celebrate Easter early with a traditional Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Mattapoisett Lions Club. The Easter Bunny hopped over for a visit, giving children hugs and high-fives as parents scurried to take photos and comfort the smaller ones who were a little reluctant to approach. Mattapoisett Historical Museum Photos380 viewsThe Mattapoisett Historical Museum is in possession of hundreds of photographs dating from the 1800s to as recently as the 1980s bearing images of people and places from Mattapoisett, but lacking identification. In their latest exhibit, the museum is asking the public to help solve the mystery each of the pictures represents. Each black and white or colorized image is a mini-mystery waiting to be solved. Shaw Farm Trail380 viewsJuly 31 was a big day for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, the Towns of Fairhaven and Mattapoisett, and the entire South Coast when 416 acres of farmland and conservation land were added to the Nasketucket Bay Conservation Project, which was formally completed with the addition of the Shaw Farm Trail that now links the bike path with the Nasketucket Bay State Reservation. Flag Day380 viewsCenter School students gathered together with Old Hammondtown students by the Center School flagpole on the morning of Tuesday, June 14, to celebrate Flag Day. The OHS band played a number of tunes, while the Center School students sang patriotic songs and listened to Principal Rose Bowman read a series of poems and writings to remind the children of what the American flag stands for.
