Cinco de Mayo371 viewsAfter hosting a successful fundraiser, a “Cinco de Mayo” luncheon, at Mattapoisett Congregational Church, the church Missions Committee presented a $750 check to the American Legion on Depot Street on Wednesday, May 15. The $750 will help the Legion pay for the installation of a new furnace thus saving on heating costs and enabling the Legion to continue renting the popular building to local groups. Holiday Party at Shipyard Park371 viewsThe community turned out for a wonderful late afternoon of lights, music, food and fun at the annual Holiday Party at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett hosted by the Lions Club. The Lions were collecting non-perishable food and unwrapped new toys to distribute to those in need during the holiday. What the heck is that, the children asked the Cat in the Hat. “Google it!” he told the children laughing at his silliness. The library knows how to throw a party, celebrating five years since the Friends of the Mattapoisett Library funded the expansion of the library. “They even bought a cake,” said Children’s Services Librarian Sandra Burke. On April 12, families gathered at Ned’s Point to celebrate Easter early with a traditional Easter egg hunt, sponsored by the Mattapoisett Lions Club. The Easter Bunny hopped over for a visit, giving children hugs and high-fives as parents scurried to take photos and comfort the smaller ones who were a little reluctant to approach. Memorial Day 2014371 viewsScores of Mattapoisett residents gathered in front of the Mattapoisett Free Library the drizzly afternoon of May 26 to pay homage to veteran Americans who lost their lives. Onlookers filled the lawn and spilled out into the street to watch the Memorial Day ceremony with special guest speaker Navy Reserve Commander Paul J.
