Freezin' for a Reason 2014365 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Led by Tai Chi Practitioner Colman Fink, 15 locals moved gracefully together with conscious breath in the downstairs of the Mattapoisett Free Library – thanks to the rain that dampened the plan to meet at Ned’s Point for a second year in a row. Onlookers filled the lawn and spilled out into the street to watch the Memorial Day ceremony with special guest speaker Navy Reserve Commander Paul J.
