Freezin' for a Reason 2014416 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning. Old Hammondtown School 416 viewsOn Friday, May 2nd, the Old Hammondtown School sixth grade enjoyed another field trip to Nasketucket State Park. The Mattapoisett Land Trust once again supplied the buses; and local experts Phil Benjamin - state certified forester, Brian Butler - professional wildlife consultant, Donna Bernier - entomologist and Elizabeth Leidhold - Mattapoisett conservation agent/environmental educator volunteered their time and expertise for the morning excursion. Memorial Day 2014416 viewsScores of Mattapoisett residents gathered in front of the Mattapoisett Free Library the drizzly afternoon of May 26 to pay homage to veteran Americans who lost their lives. Onlookers filled the lawn and spilled out into the street to watch the Memorial Day ceremony with special guest speaker Navy Reserve Commander Paul J. Shaw Farm Trail416 viewsJuly 31 was a big day for the Buzzards Bay Coalition, the Towns of Fairhaven and Mattapoisett, and the entire South Coast when 416 acres of farmland and conservation land were added to the Nasketucket Bay Conservation Project, which was formally completed with the addition of the Shaw Farm Trail that now links the bike path with the Nasketucket Bay State Reservation.
