Mattapoisett Memorial Day396 viewsMattapoisett Board of Selectmen along with members of the American Legion Florence Eastman Post 280, Rep. William Straus, and special guest Col. Chris Kidd attended the Memorial Day observances at Center School on May 28. Lions Club Triathlon396 viewsUnder merciful overcast skies on July 15, the 37th annual Lions Club Triathlon found 115 participants including seven relay teams vying for first place bragging rights. Coming in 1st place in the men’s division was Brian Hughes with a time of 51:38 minutes. Harbor Days396 viewsSaturday was a splendid day to celebrate Harbor Days, with thousands turning out throughout the day ahead of Sunday’s dubious weather forecast that caused the early end to the annual weeklong event at Shipyard Park. Gaga Pit at Center School396 viewsPaul McLaughlin of Mattapoisett Troop 53 has completed his Eagle Scout Project – a Gaga Pit at Center School. McLaughlin, a freshman at Old Colony, wanted to build the Gaga pit where everyone could access to enjoy a game of Gaga ball. The game is played inside the octagon pit with a soft ball. The ball is hit with the hand at opponents within the Gaga pit below the knees to get them ‘out’. The full set of rules can be found on a plaque hung within the pit, which is there for all to enjoy
