Vernal Pools389 viewsGary Johnson of the Mattapoisett Land Trust led about a dozen on an excursion to the vernal pool at the Woodcock Preserve off Long Plain Road on Saturday, April 16, where they spotted the egg masses of the blue-spotted salamander, a species of ‘special concern,’ and the wood frog. Cops for Kids389 viewsOn April 28, Nicholas Claudio and his mother Alison Isherwood received a ‘big check’ for $5,000 from a partnership between Cops for Kids with Cancer and the Mattapoisett Police Officer’s Association. Claudio is a sophomore at ORRHS, an honor role student, and a cancer survivor. Flag Day389 viewsCenter School students gathered together with Old Hammondtown students by the Center School flagpole on the morning of Tuesday, June 14, to celebrate Flag Day. The OHS band played a number of tunes, while the Center School students sang patriotic songs and listened to Principal Rose Bowman read a series of poems and writings to remind the children of what the American flag stands for. Taste of the Town389 viewsPeople with a taste for fine food flocked to Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett on the evening of Tuesday, July 12 for the annual Taste of the Town. Local restaurants and cafés dole out servings of their specialty foods for ticket holders to the event hosted by the Mattapoisett Woman’s Club. Holiday in the Park389 viewsT’was the fortnight before Christmas and all through the park, every creature was stirring including Santa, Mrs. Claus, Rudolph, and Frosty the Snowman! On Saturday, December 10, hundreds turned out for Mattapoisett’s holiday celebration at Shipyard Park where fun, free food, and frolicking characters made for a great night of revelry leading up to the tree lighting. Dupuis, a former cobbler, and Padelford are master basket weavers who have been studying and teaching the craft for many years. Following events are Wednesday with Concert in the Park and strawberry shortcake, Thursday is Paint Night at Shipyard Park, Friday is the fish fry, Saturday is craft fair/vendors, entertainment, U-Pick ‘Em Auction, and lobster dinner, and Sunday is the pancake breakfast.
