Holiday Party at Shipyard Park409 viewsThe community turned out for a wonderful late afternoon of lights, music, food and fun at the annual Holiday Party at Shipyard Park in Mattapoisett hosted by the Lions Club. The Lions were collecting non-perishable food and unwrapped new toys to distribute to those in need during the holiday. Library Treasures409 viewsWord spread of the Antiques Roadshow-style fundraiser at the Mattapoisett Library on March 29, attracting scores of South Coasters clutching their treasures, antiques, and heirlooms for appraisal and admiration, hoping Francis McNamee of the Marion Antique Shop might discover worth in their belongings beyond their sentimental value. Paying $5 per item appraised, some brought primitive dolls, old books, tea sets, and artwork. By Jean Perry

Cold Steel409 views“Cold Steel” was one of the educating and exciting free programs the Mattapoisett Free Library offers during the summer. Visitors learned all about the history of swords and the origins of sword fighting, while Jeff Lord and Jeff Goodkind from the Association for Renaissance and Medieval Swordsmanship gave live demonstrations before a crowd of enthusiastic kids and adults. The Mattapoisett Lion’s Club in partnership with local businesses hosted the annual tree lighting at Shipyard Park on Saturday, December 13. Chili Cook-off409 viewsThe MattMen of Mattapoisett Congregational Church came together Sunday night, January 25th ,to see who amongst them cooks up the best man-made chili. Tasting was free to all who came. Those who wished to vote contributed $5 to The Baby Project of New Bedford. $518 was raised for The Baby Project. Out of 15 chili cooks who prepared 16 pots of chili, Rory McFee received the most votes for his “Smoky Chili.”. Bob Field’s “Oyster Chili” came in second place. Photo by Felix Perez

Memorial Day in Mattapoisett409 viewsMemorial Day in Mattapoisett was observed as it traditionally is, with ceremonies in front of the Mattapoisett Library followed by the parade march to Cushing Cemetery. This year’s guest speaker, Mattapoisett resident U.S. Army Sergeant Edward Sweeney, Jr. stirred the emotions of those in attendance with his speech about sacrifice and the American way of life.
