Mother’s Day Tiara 5k402 viewsSunday’s wind and rain wasn’t stopping the hundreds who participated in the annual Mother’s Day Tiara 5k in Mattapoisett on May 10. The storm brought strong wind and cold rain to the area, especially at the turn around Ned’s Point Lighthouse, dampening the day but not the sentiment behind the Women’s Fund of Southeastern Massachusetts’ largest annual fundraising event. Lost Elm402 viewsMattapoisett has lost one of the last remaining American elm trees planted throughout the community during the mid-twentieth century. Tree Warden Roland Cote said that despite valiant efforts over the past year to save this once grand specimen located in Shipyard Park, the tree lost its battle with Dutch Elm disease. Concern over public safety helped Cote make the difficult decision to take the tree down. Cote said a red maple tree would be planted nearby. Photo by Marilou Newell
