Mattapoisett Firemen’s Reunion406 viewsRetired firemen gathered to celebrate the first Mattapoisett Firemen’s Reunion on October 16 at Ned’s Point. Former members of the Mattapoisett Fire Department along with several others from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Marion and current members of the department enjoyed the splendid fall afternoon while reliving past events in careers that spanned decades. On hand to greet the men and women as they arrived was retired Chief Ron Scott, who spent 42 years on the Mattapoisett Fire Department.

Memorial Day406 viewsThe rain cancelled the parade and forced the Memorial Day observance indoors on Monday, but many gathered to honor our fallen soldiers and their families inside Center School. Keynote speaker Commander Bryan D. Williams gave a heartfelt speech, while George Randall recited the Gettysburg Address to mark the 100th anniversary of when his father, Jeremiah, first read it on Memorial Day in 1917 at the age of 15.
