Build-your-own Snowman428 viewsUnder the direction of Jeanne McCullough, children at the Mattapoisett Free Library on December 30 participated in a step-by-step build-your-own snowperson activity during the winter school break. Little fingers sticky with glue flattened out cotton balls and fastened them to prefabricated Styrofoam snowperson shapes, and then glued on the trimmings under the guidance of caregivers. Chili Cook-off428 viewsThe MattMen of Mattapoisett Congregational Church came together Sunday night, January 25th ,to see who amongst them cooks up the best man-made chili. Tasting was free to all who came. Those who wished to vote contributed $5 to The Baby Project of New Bedford. $518 was raised for The Baby Project. Out of 15 chili cooks who prepared 16 pots of chili, Rory McFee received the most votes for his “Smoky Chili.”. Bob Field’s “Oyster Chili” came in second place. Photo by Felix Perez

Salty’s Silvery Moon Soiree428 viewsOn October 25, families gathered around the fire with Salty the Seahorse to enjoy some storytelling and the general splendor of nighttime in Dunseith Gardens. Salty’s Silvery Moon Soiree is a fall tradition sponsored by the Mattapoisett Land Trust. Guests enjoy s’mores and cider, music, and stories told by Toby Gills. Over 100 participants took the icy plunge into the frigid waters at Mattapoisett Town Beach on January 1 during the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge on New Year’s Day. Harbor Days 428 viewsHarbor Days came to Mattapoisett this past weekend, and many visitors were gracious enough to spin The Wanderer Wheel for a $1 donation to the Lions Club. Those who played helped raise an extra $523 the Lions Club will use to benefit the community. Boy Scout Troop 53428 viewsJames DeMailly, a Mattapoisett resident with Boy Scout Troop 53, works along with fellow troop members to complete his Eagle project on Saturday, August 13. DeMailly repaired, restored, and coordinated the re-installation of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church sign with troop assistance.
