Wanderer Lecture429 viewsRecently retired Seth Mendell delivered his last lecture for a while at the Mattapoisett Historical Society last Thursday night. The presentation was a riveting tale of the construction and subsequent journeys of the last whale ship built in Mattapoisett and this newspaper’s namesake, the bark Wanderer. Mendell recounted the yellow pine and live oak, the charismatic caulkers and other builders, and the fact that the Wanderer found its greatest successes in the early 1900s before its demise at Cuttyhunk.
