Veterans Day Ceremony in Mattapoiset539 viewsOn November 11 following the Veterans Day Ceremony at Old Hammondtown School in Mattapoisett, members of Boy Scout Troop 53 performed a flag decommissioning ceremony at the Mattapoisett Land Trust’s Dunseith Gardens. Flags had been placed in decommissioning boxes built by Drew Robert for his Eagle project. The flags were then collected from the boxes located at the police department, town hall and public library and prepared for burning and burial.

Holiday in the Park539 viewsT’was the fortnight before Christmas and all through the park, every creature was stirring including Santa, Mrs. Claus, Rudolph, and Frosty the Snowman! On Saturday, December 10, hundreds turned out for Mattapoisett’s holiday celebration at Shipyard Park where fun, free food, and frolicking characters made for a great night of revelry leading up to the tree lighting. Memorial Day539 viewsThe rain cancelled the parade and forced the Memorial Day observance indoors on Monday, but many gathered to honor our fallen soldiers and their families inside Center School. Keynote speaker Commander Bryan D. Williams gave a heartfelt speech, while George Randall recited the Gettysburg Address to mark the 100th anniversary of when his father, Jeremiah, first read it on Memorial Day in 1917 at the age of 15. 2011 Triathlon538 views240 athletes kicked off the Harbor Days week on July 10, 2011 with the Mattapoisett Lions Triathlon, which started from Mattapoisett Town Beach and included a .25-mile swim, a 10-mile bike ride and a 3-mile run.
