Christmas Day Swim469 viewsThe Helping Hands and Hooves’ annual Christmas Day Swim was preceded by a polar plunge in the weather and a brief ‘snownado’ of sorts as the winds swept snow and sleet across the area only minutes before enthusiastic participants in costume arrived at the Mattapoisett Town Beach and raced into the icy waters. Blacking Out 469 viewsSomeone else may have written the words, but it takes a poet to pluck out the meaningful ones and turn it into a poem. The Mattapoisett Library hosted a Blackout Poetry Lab on Saturday, April 21, and provided all the materials for any blackout poet to explore the art form. April is Poetry Month, and this was just one of many celebrations of poetry at the library. Photos by Jean Perry

Christmas Holiday Shop468 viewsSt. Anthony’s and St. Rita’s parishioners combined efforts to give the community a Christmas Holiday Shop and Celebration on Saturday, December 5, 2009. The basement of St. Anthony’s church was decked out in snowflakes, wreaths, bells, bows, and a Santa sleigh. Santa listened patiently as children told him what they wanted for Christmas. A beautiful bake table tempted visitors with gooey confections and warm malasadas were enjoyed by all. Photo by Anne O’Brien-Kakley.
