Vernal Pools469 viewsGary Johnson of the Mattapoisett Land Trust led about a dozen on an excursion to the vernal pool at the Woodcock Preserve off Long Plain Road on Saturday, April 16, where they spotted the egg masses of the blue-spotted salamander, a species of ‘special concern,’ and the wood frog. Tour de Crème469 viewsThe Mattapoisett Land Trust in tandem with the Mattapoisett Bike Path Committee held its first Tour de Crème on Sunday, May 22. The fundraiser brought groups on three different courses – 13-, 25-, and 48-miles long – winding their way through area towns and making stops at various local ice cream parlors. Mattapoisett Library Volunteer Recognition Reception469 viewsThe Mattapoisett Library held its annual Volunteer Recognition Reception on July 13. Library Director Susan Pizzolato and staff recognized the importance of the 125 volunteer corps that aids in everything from putting books back on shelves to helping high school students write letters to caring for the library’s live animals to aiding in preparing resumes for college applications. Pizzolato said, “The staff couldn’t deliver the level of service they do without our volunteers.

Veterans Day Ceremony in Mattapoiset469 viewsCol. Joseph McGraw was the guest speaker during the Veterans Day Ceremony at Old Hammondtown School. McGraw has a long and impressive military career. He graduated in 1994 from U.S. Military Academy and achieved successive ranks to become a full colonel in 2015. George Randall, member of the Florence Eastman Post of the American Legion, recited the preamble to the American Constitution and the Gettysburg Address before a standing-room only audience during the November 11 Veterans Day Ceremony in Mattapoiset

Behold, the locals who fit that description as they enjoy a frosty January 1st at Mattapoisett Town Beach for the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge! Hundreds lined the beach to take the plunge, with bundled spectators watching from the sidelines and cheering as the plungers charged ahead screaming and shrieking with exhilaration.
