Motorcyclists paid $20 per bike to participate in the run from Mattapoisett to Wareham and back, with the proceeds benefitting youth sports in Mattapoisett, Marion, Rochester and Fairhaven. About 25 people gathered at the Museum and Carriage House at 5 Church Street and then meandered throughout the village to spread Holiday cheer. Veteran’s Day 432 viewsOn November 12, members of the Mattapoisett community gathered together at Old Hammondtown Elementary School for their annual Veteran’s Day ceremony. Commander Michael Lamoureux served as emcee of the event while State Representative William Straus, Selectman Paul Silva, Veterans’ Agent Barry Denham and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Scott Burrill addressed the audience. Freezin' for a Reason 2014432 viewsParticipants in the 2014 Polar Plunge on January 1 were encouraged to wear costumes for the event, which raised thousands of dollars for the BAM Foundation. BAM is an organization that offers financial assistance to families battling cancer to help offset the unexpected costs of cancer treatment. Hundreds of people turned out for the event, with over a hundred participants who plunged into 34 degree waters, just a few degrees warmer than the 28 degree air temperature that morning.
