Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition452 viewsThe 2nd Annual Mattapoisett Firefighters Association Chowder Competition was well attended this Sunday, September 18, behind the Knights of Columbus on Route 6. Two categories – professional establishment and public safety – competed for best judged chowder and people’s choice. Carolyn Titcomb452 viewsOn April 8, family and friends gathered at the residence of Carolyn Titcomb of Mattapoisett to celebrate her 100th birthday. Those in attendance traveled from throughout New England and from North Carolina to attend the event. Titcomb said she was overwhelmed by seeing so many people assembled just for her and said of her special birthday, “I don’t know how I got here!” Titcomb has two sons, William Titcomb of Marion, and Peter Titcomb of North Carolina, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Mattapoisett Woman's Club 452 viewsOn September 28, the garden group of the Mattapoisett Woman's Club brought shovels, clippers, trowels, and rakes to the badly overgrown butterfly garden at Center School and cleared out the overgrowth and weeds. The garden will be dedicated to Suzanne Sylvester who along with two other teachers designed, planted, and used this garden to teach students about butterflies. Mattapoisett Museum452 viewsThe Mattapoisett Museum opened its Summer 2019 exhibit on June 27 titled “Inspiration: Time & Texture.” Local artists, including members of Center School’s third grade class, created works of art inspired by objects in the museum or of historical significance to the town. Usually held in New Bedford, race organizer Geoff Smith moved the race to Mattapoisett, flooding the village streets with hundreds of Santas – and a few Christmas miniature horses, as well.
