Behold, the locals who fit that description as they enjoy a frosty January 1st at Mattapoisett Town Beach for the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge! Hundreds lined the beach to take the plunge, with bundled spectators watching from the sidelines and cheering as the plungers charged ahead screaming and shrieking with exhilaration. Salty's Hat561 viewsMattapoisett’s most beloved seahorse got his Santa hat on Tuesday, December 4. The Mattapoisett Land Trust’s annual tradition continues with help from the folks at Brownell Systems and their trusty crane. This year Alan Johnson braved a fear of heights to place the hat on top of Salty the Seahorse’s head just right as MLT’s Jenny Mello directed from below and Brownell’s Tom Checkman operated the crane’s controls. Princesses Elsa and Anna beguiled the children as well as their parents in an hour-long performance culminating in hugs and a photo session. Santa Arrives560 viewsMattapoisett held its annual holiday celebration and tree lighting on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Shipyard Park. The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. Children made their own ornaments and hung them on the Christmas tree. They also danced with Rudolph and Frosty and shared their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus. Photo by Felix Perez.
