Healing Little Hearts 5K 564 viewsUpward of 300 runners competed in the inaugural Healing Little Hearts 5K on a beautiful Columbus Day morning. Dog Walk-a-thon564 viewsFreemin Bauer, 17, of Mattapoisett Boy Scout Troop 53, along with his fellow scouts and adult assistants, held a Dog Walk-a-thon on August 27 in Mattapoisett Village. Bauer’s event, part of his Eagle project, is to raise awareness for being a responsible dog owner and to help support the Fairhaven Animal Shelter. Proceeds from the event will be used to purchase supplies for repairs the scouts will make to the facility. Additional funds raised from the event will be donated to the shelter. Photos by Marilou

Mattapoisett Firemen’s Reunion564 viewsRetired firemen gathered to celebrate the first Mattapoisett Firemen’s Reunion on October 16 at Ned’s Point. Former members of the Mattapoisett Fire Department along with several others from Fairhaven, Rochester, and Marion and current members of the department enjoyed the splendid fall afternoon while reliving past events in careers that spanned decades. On hand to greet the men and women as they arrived was retired Chief Ron Scott, who spent 42 years on the Mattapoisett Fire Department.

Overcast skies were welcomed but the July 4th heat was tough for the runners and the cheering crowds who begged for shade.
