Following events are Wednesday with Concert in the Park and strawberry shortcake, Thursday is Paint Night at Shipyard Park, Friday is the fish fry, Saturday is craft fair/vendors, entertainment, U-Pick ‘Em Auction, and lobster dinner, and Sunday is the pancake breakfast. Family Fun Festival 464 viewsFamilies came out in record numbers to enjoy the 4th Annual Fall Free Family Fun Festival sponsored by the Mattapoisett’s Lion Club on October 19 held at Shipyard Park. Bruce Rocha of the club estimated attendance at over 400. Kids and adults alike enjoyed free face painting, bowling with pumpkins, a corn hole toss, snacks, hayrides to Ned’s Point and, yes, free pumpkins to take home. Frozen Princesses464 viewsOn December 21, two princesses visited the Mattapoisett Public Library to read stories and sing songs from the Disney film Frozen. Princesses Elsa and Anna beguiled the children as well as their parents in an hour-long performance culminating in hugs and a photo session. Rockets464 viewsMattapoisett Library hosted Dr. Sandra Pearl of SEED Education on September 21. SEED is a regional, nonprofit organization run by Ph.D. scientists with a passion for empowering teachers with the confidence to instill a love of science in their students. Pearl led a group of eager students through science experiments geared to launching things into the air. There was age-appropriate physics, chemistry and just plain fun. The activity was made possible through a grant from the Mattapoisett Cultural Council.

Rachel's life was taken in the Columbine High School shootings, but her legacy of kindness lives on in the "Rachel's Challenge" program, which is designed to promote compassion among children. Harbor Days Craze463 viewsThe town gazebo was the scene of another sultry Harbor Days this past weekend. Rows of vendors peddled their fun wares while visitors of all ages enjoyed music, conversation and the best strawberry shortcake in the world.
