Little fingers sticky with glue flattened out cotton balls and fastened them to prefabricated Styrofoam snowperson shapes, and then glued on the trimmings under the guidance of caregivers. Usually held in New Bedford, race organizer Geoff Smith moved the race to Mattapoisett, flooding the village streets with hundreds of Santas – and a few Christmas miniature horses, as well. Chest Returns455 viewsBeth Mills stands in front of the pine and mahogany chest of drawers made by her grandfather, Charles Johnson, who was an undertaker and cabinet-maker in Mattapoisett at the turn of the 20th century. The chest of drawers remained with her until she passed away in 2008 at the age of 99. Her friends John and Caroline Belloti contacted the Mattapoisett Historical Society after her passing to fulfill her wish that the chest remain with the Mattapoisett Museum, just around the corner from where it was made.

The rain couldn't dampen holiday spirits as visitors enjoyed delicious food and listened to Christmas music performed by the Showstoppers. Children made their own ornaments and hung them on the Christmas tree. They also danced with Rudolph and Frosty and shared their Christmas wishes with Santa Claus. Photo by Felix Perez.
