Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge461 viewsIt takes a certain type of person to jump into the cold ocean on New Year’s morning. Behold, the locals who fit that description as they enjoy a frosty January 1st at Mattapoisett Town Beach for the annual Freezin’ for a Reason Polar Plunge! Hundreds lined the beach to take the plunge, with bundled spectators watching from the sidelines and cheering as the plungers charged ahead screaming and shrieking with exhilaration. Proceeds from the plunge benefit locals battling cancer. Photos by Colin Veitch

Great Community Picnic461 viewsThe Great Community Picnic hosted by the Mattapoisett Land Trust and Historical Museum featured great food, music, and lots of creative expression. One table was tricked out in a Jaws theme while another was filled with ladies wearing hats called “fascinators”. The fourth annual fundraiser was a sold out event. The grounds of the MLT’s Munro Preserve provided the perfect location as nearly 200 people mingled harbor side. Photo by Marilou Newell
