Mattapoisett Tree Lighting485 viewsMattapoisett lit one of the biggest trees Shipyard Park has ever seen at the 2011 Holiday in the Park. There was food from local establishments, ornament making, merry music and Santa! The moment was enough to spur two romantic marriage proposals. Hammond Quarry485 viewsMattapoisett Land Trust President Mike Huguenin led a group of about 52 people on a walk about Hammond Quarry, a historical property off Mattapoisett Neck Road that the MLT is hoping to acquire next year. Pink granite was mined from the site between the early 1700s through the early 1900s, and the MLT plans to purchase the property to preserve the quarries and carve out trails for public access. Flynn said that the event brought in more than $6,000 - monies that are earmarked for their scholarship fund. She said visitors were awed by the gardens graciously opened for viewing from iconic harbor homes to those set in peaceful rural uplands along the Mattapoisett River Valley.
